AirPower Canceled

Apple has officially canceled AirPower. I cannot find any evidence of another time Apple has announced a product and then canceled it. Here is the timeline;

September 12, 2017 - Apple Announces Airpower and says it will be available in 2018.

September 12, 2018 – Apple Removes almost all mention of AirPower from its website.

September 20, 2018 – iPhone XS packaging mentioned AirPower as a way to charge.

January 1, 2019 – Apple officially misses the deadline they gave to ship AirPower. They provide no statement regarding delay.

March 25, 2019 – New AirPods ship with an image of AirPower on the back packaging.

March 29, 2019 – Apple officially cancels AirPower.

After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have cancelled the project. We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward.
— Dan Riccio, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering

AirPower was the perfect solution. The ability to charge an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods all at the same time on a single mat without having to precisely place them in a specific spot was something that has never been done. Sadly, that still remains true.
